Casino Software
IGT Ready for New Jersey
September 27, 2013
Who would have thought, this time a tear ago, that New Jersey would be the first state to allow online gambling sites to open up within its borders? We would have put our money on Nevada being the first, as it was the first to entertain applications for an online gambling license from online casino sites and related service companies.
International Game Technology will be one of the first online gambling companies to begin offering online casino content to residents of New Jersey. IGT will be providing its Remote Game Server platform to online casino sites in New Jersey.
What many online gambling fans will probably not realize, is that International Game Technology does not just provide software for online casino sites. Over 50% of the real world casinos in Atlantic City use IGT software to power the casino games on the casino floor. So to see International Game Technology move into the lucrative new online gambling market in New Jersey is not really much of a surprise.
Eric Tome, the Executive Vice President of International Game Technology can be quoted as saying, "Other companies have announced their move to real money wagering in the U.S. but none offer IGT's great library of content. We create authentic, casino entertainment experiences in land-based casinos, online and across mobile devices; there are no gaps in our offering. IGT is poised to take a leadership position in the real money wagering space simply because our games outperform most of the other game content currently online and in land-based casinos."
Well, this is a pretty arrogant statement. Sure, IGT may be the premier provider of real world casino software, but there are plenty of online casino platform developers that can quite easily match IGT in the quality and reach stakes, such as Microgaming. However, it is quite obvious that IGT has its foot in the door already in New Jersey, and it is going to leverage this to grab as large a market share as it can. Nothing wrong with this, its good business.
We would like to see more online casino developers begin making a move in to these emerging US online gambling markets though, as otherwise, there is a danger of powerful monopolies forming, and this would not be a good thing for online casino players at all.
