Online Slots Technology
February 1, 2012
We are a month into 2012 now, and we have already seen some major industry news in the form of mergers and acquisitions. However, what we have not seen so far is much in the way of proposed technological enhancements to online slots. In this article we are going to make a few predictions of what technology will be hot for online slots this year.
Mobile online slots – In 2011 mobile online slots became very popular. This is no doubt due to the mature nature of mobile platforms. Five years ago, if you owned what was termed a smartphone, it meant you had a bulky cellphone, with a larger screen, and access to email and mobile browsing. Fast forward to today and the smartphone is now a useful device, equipped with a specially developed OS. The Apple iPhone started this revolution, but Blackberry, Microsoft and Google have been quick to catch up. Add to this the fact that pads are now becoming the tech toy of choice, and you have a recipe for a mobile slots revolution. We fully expect a huge boom on mobile slots in 2012 as online casino operators cash in on this.
Social online slots – There can be no denying the popularity and success of social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and a whole host of less well known ones. It stands to reason that online casino operators would want to exploit this currently untapped income stream. Zynga (a major social games developer) have already announced their intention to enter the online casino market this year. Take a look at Facebook currently, more specifically, a pair of social gaming apps named Slotomania and Slots Farm. These are fun play online slots casinos, and the slots they have deployed are actually better than those found in pay to play online casinos. It won’t be long before we see a synergy between social networking and online gambling emerge.
Touch screen bonus features – This ties in with the mobile slots revolution we see happening this year. Almost every smartphone and pad has a high quality touch screen which supports gesturing. How many bonus features we see these days are simply point and click? By enabling touch screen gesturing a bonus feature could include a much more deeply interactive set of gameplay features such as swiping, pinching, and a whole range of others.
