Social Online Slots
February 3, 2012
We recently published an article in which we made predictions for the hottest new online slots technology for 2012. One of the technologies we mentioned in that article was social networking from an online casino point of view. In this article we will take a look at two popular social networking sites, Facebook and Twitter, and try and identify some features which could be incorporated into a new type of social online slot.
Facebook remains the world’s most popular social network. Love it or hate it, Facebook has become a part of modern life for millions of people. Facebook has hundreds of features, and a few of these could be adopted by online casino operators to develop social online slots. Firstly there is the way that people can link up and form groups based upon common likes and interests. We all have our favorite online slots, so imagine if you could join a group who liked the same online slot? Do discuss playing strategies, share tips and generally socialize? There is also the whole concept of liking something, a Facebook like is a good indication of how popular something is, the more likes something gets, the more popular. What a fantastic tool this could be for online casino operators in judging which of their online slots are liked the most, which features, which promotions, the list is endless. Building a socially enabled community would enable online casino operators to add value by introducing an entirely new facet to online gambling, giving people a way to interact whilst playing online slots. Something for those long sessions on autospin!
Moving on to twitter, well there is something very beneficial to be had from implementing this type of microblogging feature to an online slot. OK let’s talk psychology here, there is a good reason why most online slots pay out many small wins frequently, instead of one singe big win less frequently, people like to see themselves winning. The more wins, no matter how small, leads the player to believe they are doing well. Now, how about adding a twitter type feed to an online slot, every time somebody playing the same slots spins in a win, a message is added to the feed such as “Fred just spun in a $135 win with 5 free spins!” Now depending upon how many people are actually playing the same slot, this feed could be updating every few seconds; the net effect is that the player is seeing that word “win” all the time, building a more positive opinion.
These are just a few ways in which aspects of social networking could be applied to a new breed of online slots. More interactive, with a solid community.
