The Two Faces of USA Online Gambling

April 4, 2013

It is easy to be fooled into thinking that the future of online gambling in the USA is a singed deal, and that soon every American citizen will have access to an online casino site, that is licensed, controlled and monitored by their local State Government. We have seen major changes in online gambling law in Delaware, New Jersey, Illinois and Nevada, with Nevada already issuing its first ever online gambling license to online casino giant 888.

However, there are some States of America that are unlikely to adopt this emerging trend to make online gambling legal in other areas of the nation. Take a look at Kansas for example. Just a few days ago, the state Senate voted on a bill to amend the 2007 gambling laws, to allow current gambling establishments (such as dog and horse tracks) to place slot games within their premises. This vote was lost, and not by a small margin, it was 24-15 against.

So we can clearly see that if Kansas is not willing to open up a little and let existing real world gambling establishments place a few slot games on their premises, it is entirely unlikely that any form of law will be changed to allow online gambling, let alone begin licensing online casino sites in the state.

The future of online gambling in the USA is uncertain, but our best guess is that if you live in certain more progressive states, such as the previously mentioned Delaware, New Jersey, Illinois and Nevada, you are going to be lucky, and eventually have a whole selection of legally licenses online casino sites to choose from, that you will be able to play as long as you are a local resident in the state. If you happen to live in one of the less adaptable states, such as Kansas, then you will be out of luck, as it is unlikely you will see any online casino sites being granted permission to operate within state borders.

In truth, this whole situation is rather farcical, and it would be far better for the American people, as well as the economy, if this issue were decided at national level. Online casinos are here to stay, and the USA needs to make sure it will not miss out on a significant sum of cash in the form of gambling tax.
