Why Waste Cash?

March 2, 2012

If you are a Facebook user, then you are undoubtedly aware of the huge number of Facebook games which you can play. Amongst these games are a number of different online slots games.

All of these games share two common features. Firstly, you can’t actually win anything tangible; you can just increase your level, win awards and impress your friends by posting your achievements to your wall. Secondly, they all accept real cash to buy coins to spend in the online slots, as well as purchase power ups and other extras.

The idea for this article came from a Facebook user, let’s call him Bob. Bob told us he has been spending on average around $200 a month to play for fun. Yes to play for fun, he can’t win a single dollar.

Bob explained that he plays an online slots game named Slots Farm, and that he purchases Facebook credits to pay for coins to wager on these play for fun slots.

This is just madness; Bob could take that $200 a month, grab a nice deposit bonus at a real online casino of anything up to 400% and then play slots with a chance at actually wining some real cash!

However, this is not the end of the story. These Facebook games are not controlled very tightly. We took a look at Slots Farm, and checked out the leader board. The top player that day had won 738,992,986,374,856 (almost 740 trillion) coins in a day. We were intrigued by this; we smelled a rat, possibly some kind of bug or exploit. The author of this article contacted the Slots Farm support department asking how it was possible for a player to win almost 740 trillion coins in a day? A standard cut and paste answer was received. Further testing was done, and it was found that 11 spins per minute can be made on average. So that means a possible total spins per day of approximately 15,840 spins if playing 24 hours without a break. To win 740 trillion coins the player would need to win an average of 46 billion coins per spin playing without a break for an entire 24 hour period. Do you smell something fishy yet?

If this were a real online casino it would be governed by laws and legislation, this situation would see them facing severe legal problems. But a Facebook game, which only takes money and does not pay it out, does not face this problem.

The long and the short of it is that if you are paying real cash to play for fun, then you need to wake up, and go and sign up with a real online casino, where you have a chance of winning something other than a pretty graphic on your Facebook wall and a status update which most people will ignore.
