27% of Americans OK with Online Gambling

December 27, 2012

A new poll undertaken by the Fairleigh Dickenson University (FDU) has shown, is that around 27% of the American population is OK with the idea of legalised online gambling, and online casino sites being made available to them.

The poll taken by the FDU used a single, simple question: “Do you favour or oppose allowing states to run betting games online, over the Internet?” The results of this simple poll were quite interesting. 27% of the people, who took the poll, stated that they were totally in favour of online casino sites and online gambling being made legal I America. 60% stated that they were opposed to online gambling and online casino sites being made legal in America. 5% didn’t care either way, and the remaining 7% were not sure.

The results of this FDU poll show us something quite interesting. They show us that on the whole, the majority of American people are still opposed to the legalization of online gambling. So this means that online casino sites are going to face a tough challenge in coming months, if they are hoping to become legal in the USA.

Despite the actions of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, and more recently the New Jersey Assembly, it would appear, on the face of this FDU poll, that online gambling is still not acceptable to the American public in general.

Now, when we look at the situation in a state such as Nevada, we see something different. This is a region of the USA that is already used to gambling, and indeed, many of the local residents work in gambling or gambling related industries, so we can see why Nevada has managed to push ahead with the legalization of online gambling so successfully. However, more hard-core states will not be such easy targets to crack. We look forward to seeing what happens in the next year, we think we will see a fragmented situation arise, where some states legalise online casino sites, and others don’t.
