Bye Bye Bodog – For the USA Anyway

December 16, 2011

Starting today (16th December 2011), online gamblers who favor the well know Bodog online casino will be out of luck. Bodog have withdrawn their online gaming service from the US marketplace and players from America will no longer be able to access the site.

Earlier in the year, Bodog managed to finally (and it took them quite some time) to avail themselves of UK gambling license. Shortly after this, a spokesman for Bodog stated that they (Bodog) would not be renewing the license to use the Bodog name which the US online casino provider Morris Mohawk Gaming Group (MMGG) had held up until this point.

The official statement which broke this news was made by Bodog, and no real comment has been made by Morris Mohawk Gaming Group, this silence is a good indication of how thoroughly peeved they must be to lose such a leading brand name.

However, all is not lost for US players who were fond of the Bodog online casino brand. Morris Mohawk Gaming Group has already launched a new online casino site named Bovada. All existing US based Bodog players should have been transferred to the new Bovada site. We are saying should because it is unconfirmed whether the changeover has gone smoothly or not.

Morris Mohawk Gaming Group did release a press statement which ensured players that they had kept contact and financial information for the US player base completely secure, as they have done since their inception in 2006.

The new Bovada site, which carries a .lv domain designation is actually registered in Canada and holds a gaming license issued by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission (KGC). Features of the new Bovada site are pretty much the same as the old US Bodog site, and players may find the transition from the old site to the new site pretty painless. However, only time will tell whether this is the case or not.

This is one of the biggest online gambling shake-ups of the year. To see a major brand such as Bodog involved in what looks to be a dispute regarding the cost of a license renewal, cannot help but make online gamblers wonder if there is something fundamentally wrong with Bodog at a financial level?
