IGT Displays New Slots

When we first came across the press release from International Game Technology we didn’t realize the implications. However, upon further consideration, we believe this could be one of the most important pieces of online slots news this year.

Last week the Andean Gaming Trade Show (FADJA) took place in Bogota, Columbia. During this event, IGT demonstrated quite a number of new online slots. Nothing special there, until you realize that every one of these online slots is being squarely aimed at a single customer demographic, namely the growing South American online gambling market. As far as we know, this is the first time a major slots developer has planned to launch online slots which are designed to appeal to a particular customer niche.

The new video slots demonstrated were Fiesta Chihuahua, Dia de Muertos, Carnaval Riches, Tango de Oro and Huevocartoon. As we can see by the names, these are all entirely aimed at the Latin market. Each of them is based on a theme which will be instantly recognizable to Latin American slots fans, such as public holidays (the Mexican day of the Dead), and prominent South American fictional characters such as Huevocartoon, one of South America’s mainstream cartoon shows.

This is a pretty sharp move by IGT. Industry statistics show that the Latin American online gambling market is one of the fastest growing, and that there is a very limited number of online casino servicing thins market. IGT are preparing a product line up which could quite literally take this market by storm.

Now let us presume that this new concept of developing niche target online slots is a success. How long before we see the likes of Microgaming, Playtech, Cryptologic and Net Entertainment following suit? Just think about it a moment, there are hundreds of these kinds of niche slots markets, from local sports (How about a Manchester United or Dallas Cowboys themed slot?) to music artists themed slots. Really, this is a very exciting new concept in online slots development and one we really hope takes off in a big way, it would lead to a lot more diversity in online slots themes.
