Online Gambling Opposition

Just when we thought that the future was beginning to look very rosy for online gambling operators in the USA, we hear news of some significant opposition to the current round of grants of online gambling licenses by the Nevada Gaming Control Board by the Family Foundation.

One of the reasons why the move to legalize online gambling has taken place in the USA is to minimize the social impact of unregulated offshore gambling companies which are used by US citizens. We think that the carefully monitored move to legalize online gambling in the USA is a good thing, it bring s the problem home and can be monitored more closely.

So we find the opposition of this new scheme by the Family Foundation to be something really quite silly, as it will minimize the social impact of unregulated offshore gambling sites. Kent Ostrander, the Founder of the Family Foundation, has stated that online gambling is “an effort to separate a family from its assets. The family is the building block of any society, and yet it is the most vulnerable institution in that society.”

Whilst we can sympathize and even empathize with the statement made by the Family Foundation, we feel that targeting a bill which is clearly designed to legalize online gambling in the USA in a controlled manner, is nothing short of ridiculous. This same “effort to separate a family from its assets” which Ken Ostrander speaks about is currently made by a myriad of ungoverned offshore gambling companies, many of which operate within a legal framework which is lax to say the least. Bringing online gambling to the USA in a controlled and governed manner should be applauded by the Family Foundation, as it enables the government to begin to tackle to problem at roots level in the home market.

We would like to state quite clearly, that we believe that a move to legalize online gambling in the USA is the only way to begin tackling the social problems which have so far been out of the reach of any governing body.
