Online Slots go 3D!

January 2, 2012

The technology which online casino providers employ to deliver online slots play is constantly evolving. In the last year we have seen a major move from online slots which simply reproduce the equivalent of a casino slot in graphical form, to more immersive online gambling games. Online slots such as Immortal Romance and Lord of the Rings have shown us how online slots will evolve in the future. The next exciting development in online slots technology is 3D graphics.

Two major online casino providers, Celtic Casino and Castle Casino have announced that they will be deploying a total of eleven new 3D online slots games. All of these new 3D slots have been designed by up and coming game developed Sheriff Gaming.

The eleven games which have been released by Castle Casino and Celtic Casino are titled Castle Mania, Crazy Jewelry, Dr. Mangoo’s Adventure, Beretta’s Vendetta, Dog Casher, Fortune of the Pharaohs, Funky Chicken, French Cuisine, Jack’s T-Rex, The Temple of Shangri-La and The Mc Murphy’s.

Each of the new 3D online slots uses cutting edge graphics techniques to deliver an almost true 3D experience. OK so truly speaking these 3D slots are not

delivering a completely 3D experience, but they are close. The technology used is bound to improve over the coming months and deliver a better 3d experience.

However, we have to wonder whether these new 3D slots will find a decent sized market niche with online slots players. Consider the following two facts: mobile online slots continue to grow in popularity, and will account for a significant percentage of the customer wallet in the coming year. These new 3D slots are not compatible with mobile platforms such as the Apple iPhone, iPad and Google Android enabled devices. This means that until mobile gaming technology catches up, both Castle Casino and Celtic Casino have invested in the development of eleven 3D slots which will not be accessible for a percentage, and more importantly a quickly growing percentage, of their customer base. We have to ask whether this is actually a wise business decision? Would it not have been better to wait until mobile platforms could support 3D slots?

Regardless of whether this was a sound business decision or not, it is good news for us, the online slots players.
